    “Very clean”

  • You Can't Beat Staying at the Five Calgary Downtown

“I've stayed at this hotel several times when I visit Calgary and have yet to find hotel rooms anywhere in the world that rival the size of the suites the Five Calgary Downtown Hotel offers! I find it excellent value for the money. The location is great and the suites are impecably clean. The other thing I thoroughly enjoy while staying there is the peace and quiet that's all too often absent when staying at other hotels. Finally, the front desk staff are inredible helpful and courteous. I can't say enough about how much I recommend this hotel.”

  • 2 stars on 5th and 5th

“I'll have to give credit where credit is due. The lobby was nice. Other than that its best to avoid this one. It's a hotel that was converted from apartments built ages ago. They playfully disarm you when you walk in, the lobby area removes any doubts about your choice. After checking in you get into the 3x5 elevator to go to your room, right there your doubts are starting to creep up on you. But they come back in full force upon opening the door to your room. The carpets used to be a dark green color (I'm guessing) but have been altered by time to be a dark grey and black stained mess. Wallpaper bubbling off of the wall due to moisture damage. A small 'kitchenette' is tucked in right next to the bathroom. I say 'kitchenette' because there's a fridge, a sink and a big empty spot where the oven used to sit. The fridge was unplugged and I found out why when I plugged it back in. It sounded like it the rest of the place looked, unkempt to be polite. I was unable to sleep due to the noise coming from the pipes in the building. I could hear entire conversations in the next room. My only saving grace was what sounded like an air compressor outside my window that drowned out most of the noise. The 'high speed' internet was terrible. I ended up creating a hot spot on my phone and used that the entire time as it was up to 10 times faster. Please vote with your wallet and vote for someone else. You'd be doing yourself a favor. PS. I forgot the food. The food was terrible and overpriced. That's all.”

  • Two-bedroom suite

“Very good value for the money. Location was great. The suite provided lots of room - two bedrooms, living room, dinette, kitchen and balcony. The staff very kindly changed our suite to give us three beds - two doubles in one room and a queen in the second room. The staff members we dealt with were all helpful, courteous and responsive. ”

  • Great value with great service

“For the price our suite was ideal. It would have been nice to know though that with two queen beds we wouldn't have two separate rooms as one bed was in the living room. The service from all staff was exceptional. Even meeting in the elevator the staff were friendly and polite. Very impressive customer service.”

  • Very good location but it's not a five stars

“Very good location for business. Room clean and pretty confortable. But: Breakfast pretty poor. Elevator to avoid (too slow and pretty busy). Some noise from outside during the night. Bearable if you just stay a couple of nights.”

  • Rested up at home

“To be fair, another couple in our party reported a stay on an excelent mattress, but we must have been given an old honeymoon suite because the mattress sloped to the middle... ”

  • Fabulous time

“Sent Swim team to Calgary 5 for 6 days. The rooms were very specious, clean and the beds on the upper floors were very comfortable. The high beds had the athletes feeling like royalty. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Computer/business room was a popular area for athletes to catch up with family and friends with many computer stations available. A great experience all around. Thank you.”

  • acceptable

“Clean, food OK with large portions, helpful & friendly staff, good value for the cost”

  • Stay at hotel

“I thought the hotel was old and shaby, I didn't feel safe and was concerned about the general cleanliness of the beds and furniture. You need a face lift. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone I know. The staff were friendly and helpful but the room itself was poor.”
