“Great location for a family outing. The hotel has three swimming pools and an active leisure program. Room featured well-stocked kitchen and nice bathrooms. Granite countertops were impressive. Staff was hospitable and attentive. Resort is huge!”

“I traveled with my daughter and two grandsons and we were just blown away by our accommodations! The rooms were large and clean, the bathrooms were exceptional and the kitchen was supplied with everything we needed. The staff was extremely helpful and the on site activities were something even my teenage grandsons enjoyed. We travel to Williamsburg often and have never stayed anywhere as nice as Powhatan Resort! ”

“My children and I stayed there for the weekend and had a great time. The room was very clean and spacious. I was very nervous about staying there after I read the reviews, but some of them were not true. I recommended this rsort for all ages, especially family trips. The staff was very friendly and professional. I am looking forward to Going again and taking the rest of my family... truly a great experience! ”

“Our unit smelled musty and had soaking wet carpeting from either a leaking washing machine or bathroom in the unit upstairs - ick! The furniture was tired and decor was drab. Nice, clean kitchen - but we didn't need it. Bathroom was clean and OK. We were pressured to attend a sales presentation to become owners, which we had no interest in doing. The much-touted on-site restaurant, where we had hoped to have dinner, was not open the night we were there. I would not return nor recommend this place.”

“The room was very nice. It had everything I needed. The beds were firm though, and not very comfortable to me. There was also a hot tub connected to my room, but apparently the hotel is getting rid of in-room hot tubs, which I disliked. I also did not like their indoor pool. I stayed 3 nights and was never able to get in. It is apparently so small that there is a first come, first serve waiting line. The staff was not able to tell me when I would be able to get in either, since there is apparently no time limit. Finally, the ghost tour was terrible. It had a 40 person max, which the staff did not abide by so I was crammed into a extremely tiny house with 60+ people. I could not either hear nor enjoy myself. After the tour we were supposed to be allowed to use the ghost hunting equipment, but that of course did not happen. All in all, it is a nice room on a nice property, but the staff needs some work. Although they are extremely nice, they seemed to be very jumbled and not prepared.”

“one bedroom unit was horrible-no sofa in lr just two ancient chairs-mini fridge stunk-bedroom barely had room to get around bed- twin beds in loft. We upgraded to a 2 bedroom which was nice. Staff polite- until they find out you don't want to go thru "the hard sell" After we said no they called next morning. Don't think we will return. ”

“I was unsure what to expect because of the great deal I got on the vacation. When I entered my 2 bedroom condo I was pleasantly suprised. It was so large, so clean and had nice decor. I would never stay anywhere else when visiting Williamsburg.”

“When we first got to the resort, the front desk had called us "renters" instead of guests. in the main bathroom there was a big hole in the wall that didnt get fixed. our room required major renevations. such as, the airconditioner in the loft upstairs was a portable air condition with a big white tube running through the window which did not look good withe the silver tape on the wall. because of this airconditionar the window was ajar so i spent half my night killing bugs at night the living room was very small. there were only two love seats and a desk next to the Tv, we were a party of 3 so one of us had to go to the master bedroom to watch TV comfortably. the resort was more of a rental complex. ”

“The condo was very nice and clean. The full kitchen had everything I needed to cook dinners nightly. It was great having 2 TV's, but it would of been nice to have the second TV in the master bedroom. My only big complaint was the lack of insulation between the units. I felt like the people below us were having a conversation right in my bedroom.”

“Everything was very good except the Bar & Grille and indoor pool area. The food was horrible and returned several times to no avail. The indoor pool had a very heavy chlorine smell and was not very appealing. Otherwise, we thought the rooms were great as well as the price. The location was excellent to get to anywhere in the Williamsburg area. The staff were very friendly and unlike reviews we saw before we came, their was no pressure to buy a time share. The TV's were very outdated, but I wasn't interested in tv anyway.”

“Condo was clean and very livable. However, several minor repairs and painting needs to be done. Staff was very courteous and helpful. Our initial condo was not ready upon arrival and the staff immediately switched us to another one with no hassles. We were asked to attend a sales presentation and declined with no further pressure from the staff. Overall: clean, quiet but still needs a few repairs and updates. Modern HDTV in the bedrooms would have been great.”

“Great staff, easy check in. We didn't come for timeshare sales and was not pressured to sit through a presentation like other timeshares we have stayed at before.”

“It was our second trip to the Resort. Love the hot tub in the unit!!!! Our best experience was at the Grille. Besides great food and service the staff was outstanding. We recieved bad news from home and they made us feel like family with their concern and generosity. We will come back again just to see the Grille staff!!!!!”

“I thought the room was fantastic! Unfortunately we didn't get to stay in the room as long as we liked because of other activities. When we arrived at the room it was in total disarray. The sofa bed was flipped upside down, the kitchen drawers were all open, etc. I called the front desk and someone was there to fix it in less than 2 minutes. That was extremely helpful! One thing I wasn't pleased with is how much they pushed for me to go to a meeting on how to get a timeshare. They didn't tell me what it was for, told me it was a welcoming thing to show us the resort. When I called to cancel the meeting, they kept trying to give me $100 visa card even after I told them I couldn't keep the reservations due to picking up the dog. That was the only negative thing about the whole trip.”

“Great place to stay especially if you have alot of kids! 2 room with kitchen at a wonderul price! Indoor pool, outdoor pool, mini golf and a great park made it so much fun for our 5 kids! Grounds are well maintained. Only drawback was that our washer broke in the middle of the cycle. Matience had to come and look at it. Unable to fix it, they let us use antoher room to finish off our laundry and the matience guys even helped bring it over! Minor set back and they made it right...”

“Stayed there recently for son's graduation from W&M. We had been there about 15 years before for a week via a timeshare exchange. Disappointed to see how the units have aged and the impact of deferred maintenance. Had a great meal at the Kitchen at Powhatan!”

“good bargain if you are traveling with a group - I stayed there with my 2 adult daughter, their 2 children and my wife, price was right with many amenities. Indoor and outdoor pool with hot tub , how can you go wrong”
Posted by craig

“This was our first stay in a resort. We enjoyed having most everything available to us. It was convenient having a washer and dryer, kitchenette and the hot tub was especially nice after a long day of site seeing. That being said the condo was in serious need of updating. The staff were very helpful especially the bartender in the lounge. The outdoor pool was very inviting but the inside pool could not accomodate everyone that wanted to swim when the weather was poor.”

“greeting was fantastic...however, when we got to our room, there were no sheets to the pullout couch.....took about 4 calls, with a promise from a supervisor calling back--which didn't happen and finally at 9pm I had to drive to the front desk to get the sheets myself. they had no pillowcases, so that supervisor actually had to drop those off....all after 9pm on our 1st night. Not a great experience at all. ”
Posted by would a second stay be better? I don't think we'll find out.

“Got a lot for the price! Location, ability to house extended family in one two bedroom suite. Great grounds and resources.”
Posted by Vacationer

“The room was well appointed, clean and spacious. The staff was friendly. However, the neighbors downstairs partied 2 nights in a row until well after 2 in the morning. Their stereo was so loud, we couldn't sleep. We asked them politely to quiet down to no avail. Policies are needed to help deal with this. The lack of any sound deadening in the condo contributed to the disturbance we experienced.”

“My husband and I stayed at the Historic Powhattan in October, 2011 and found it to be an absolutely fabulous experience. The only complaint we could have had was that our hot tub wasn't working when we arrived, but a member of the maintenance staff came right out to fix it as soon as we called. My husband used the exercise facilities and the wine tasting held while we were there was excellent. We've decided to make the trip a yearly tradition.”

“Very nice resort. Our condo was great. It is a time share place so they tried to get us to attend an information session. I refused, more than once! Other than that, it was all good.”

“A very lovely place to stay. Friendly staff, convenient location, and nice and quiet. ”
Posted by jeffrey brown

“Normally our visits there are very enjoyable, this visit not so much. The master bedroom had nothing to cover the windows but a valance, no blinds. The TV in the living room had a blown speaker, so we turned the TV up in the bedroom to watch TV in the living room. Hot tub was warm but far from hot not sure what was wrong with that. Better luck next time.”
Posted by Babb

“The unit was nice and clean. Love the sheets! The TV in the living room needs to be updated. It was small, maybe 19 inch and the DVD player was in the bedroom but none in the living room. Check in was quick and easy. We were given a menu for the Grill when we checked in and I even called the front desk one night to check on how late they were serving and was told 9 pm however when we got to the Grill we found it to be closed but no mention that they were serving in the 'Kitchen'. We found this out when we asked the very friendly and helpful clerk in the General Store the next day. Mention of the change of location would have been nice if it were written on the menu we were given at check in, or when I called for serving hours or even on the front door of the Grill. We have always enjoyed the food and had looked forward to the meal. ”

“Booked room without realizing it was a time share. When we arrived our welcome pack included an invitation to listen to their sales pitch :) for 2 hours. Incentive to do so included a free 2 night stay in a resort and another gift of our choice. Decided to go for it. Not too bad although the lady's attitude definitely changed when she finally understood that we were going to keep saying no :). She was very pleasant, but wanted a sale, understandably, so she was a bit cooler at the end :) Got our certificate for a free stay AND a total of $70 in gift cards for Shell Gasoline. Not too shabby, I'd say! Especially considering the whole cost for this visit was only $250 for three nights. Did request Bldg. 4 which has been newly renovated....very nice suite on ground floor. On our last night someone checked into the suite above us and you could hear them walking around pretty loudly. But, we wanted the ground floor since it included a very large jucuzzi :). Overall, great place!”

“The Historic Powhatan Resort was very disappointing. There were only 2 televisions in the unit, a 19inch in the master bedroom and a 27 inch (or smaller) in the living room. The picture quality was horrible; they were the old box televisions. The television in the living room has a remote with the back battery cover missing. The kitchen had ants and the pots and pans were not up to standard. The dishes in the cabinet were dirty and we had to wash them. The plates had hair on them. The oven cooking temps were off and it made it impossible to cook meals. The refrigerator was old and the shelves inside were leaning and looked unstable. The kitchen table had chairs that were from different sets, they didn’t match. The fireplace looked unusable. The couch and chairs in the living room were old and outdated. My husband was sitting on the couch watching television when he noticed ANTS crawling on him!!! The carpet was stained throughout the unit. The smaller bedroom had dim lighting and dead bugs in the closet!!! I had to go through and re-clean both of the bathrooms. The furniture and curtains in the master bedroom were dusty. I have an allergy to dust mites, so after a day and a half there my eyes were burning and I sneezed uncontrollably. Basically all of the furniture was old, outdated, dusty, and dirty. We were never able to get a good nights rest. The kids slept in the bed with us because I was scared there room was unsanitary due to the dead bugs I saw in the closet. The patio furniture was old and dirty and it was the cheap plastic stuff. The hot tub was okay, but it didn’t work well. To make a long story short, we checked out a day early. I wish there was a way we could get our week back that we exchanged so we can stay somewhere else. We will never stay at this resort again or recommend it to family and friends. We did not call the office to request another room because we did not want to trade one problem for another. I did call in advance to ask for an upgraded room and that is what we got. Worst resort stay ever. ”

“Check in is great, resort is great, room was okay, needs some maintenance, bath cabinets are rotting and hall stairs smelled bad. Wouldn't hurt to have a little larger tv in the living room. But it was clean and affordable and much much better than a hotel room. Good for a couple and two kids.”

Posted by Lou Everett/L.L. Everett family

“We stayed for 4 nights over the Thanksgiving holiday. The upstairs 2-bedroom unit with 2 bathrooms was quite nice, clean, and comfortable. We would likely stay here again in the future. Only critiques are the caulking around the tub in the back bathroom was coming out of the joints between the tile and the tub and the TV was a little dated.”
Posted by Dave

“My daughter found this location on the internet, and we decided to spend Thanksgiving there. It was an excellent experience from check-in to check out.Very quiet yet not remote. The unit was clean and everything we needed to prepare our meal was provided. Will most definitely stay here again.”

“We stayed in a renovated unit. It was very clean, decor was nice. The only complaint is that the television in the living area is in an awkward place.”
Posted by Michael

“The jacuzzi never got warm enough to use. The TV in the bedroom was red in tint and could not be adjusted. The rooms were showing their age. Chipped paint around sky lights. We will not stay their again.”

“We had a wonderful experience at your resort and have already recommended it to others! We will definitely be staying with you the next time we are in Williamsburg. Everything was perfect! Allowed us to check out a little later, which was very helpful.”

“On arrival, our frig was inoperable, dishwasher full of water, obviously no ice. Took quite awhile for a tech to appear. He did not offer free ice that we found out later was available after purchasing some at the store. The floor plan of the unit was weird. VERY small living space. A window at a the stair landing/window seat was operable and VERY unsafe!! Anyone being careless (small child) could fall out from a 2 story window. We did have a comfortable bed and ability to fix meals and that was good. For the price, I guess we got what we paid for, however, I would not request a 2nd story unit ever again. Our stay was only 2 days. It would not have been tolerable for a longer stay. If a family of 4 is looking for a place to sleep and cook in on a limited budget, this would work for them if they spend their days out and about. If your website could show floor plans, that would be great. The resort property was very pretty and well maintained. Access to area sites was easy....historic Jamestown and Williamsburg. Shopping and dining choices were reasonably close and on site. As you examine the various sections of the resort property, it is obvious that some are newer than others. We were no doubt in the oldest and first units...no upstairs view or balcony either. The pool and other amenities were very close, however. The management needs some spiffing up in our opinion.”

“The grounds were gorgeous and the location was perfect - close to restaurants, attractions and stores. The rooms were large and spaced nicely around the resort. Lots of activity for the kids. We had breakfast one morning on site and it took 1 1/2 half - there were only 2 servers and they were running around. Our order was wrong and we had to wait for syurp/whip cream/butter to eat our food.”

“This was our 3rd stay at our the Historic Powhatan in VA, and we love this place. The units are very clean, spacious, and well furbished- at an excellent price! My only criticisms are of the front desk/concierge- not well staffed or helpful, and there is no free wi-fi in the units; we paid for wifi but the coverage was not great.”

“We stayed 3 days, and had an upstairs 2 bedroom unit with a full kitchen. It was very clean, but needed a serious coat of paint and the appliances needed updating. I did not know this was a timeshare when I booked the reservation, but did find out before we arrived, so was prepared and firmly declined their tour. We had trouble with our keys - every day they would stop working and we had to have new ones re-issued. It was definatel worth what we paid, but I would wait to return after they have upgraded all the units.”

“Good hotel for a family to stay in. Great set-up for kids at the multiple pools both indoor and out. Stayed for three nights, however, and never saw that a maid ever entered our room the whole time. Beds were never made-up and toiletries never replaced, floor not vacuumed. Were told at check-in that we'd be able to get a crib for our 14 month old and that it'd be delivered to the room shortly after; two hours later another call to the reception assures us we'd shortly have the crib. The next morning came around and still no crib...finally showed up after a third phone call and having to ask to speak to the manager.”

“Great to have plenty to do for the family. Pool area was nice. Room was like being at home. Clean and friendly staff. Only downside was I was not aware this was a timeshare and was a little taken back by being asked to participate in a tour to try and sell us something. ”

“This resort is beautiful! The landscaping and grounds are amazing! There were lots of activities and things to do. My only problem was the rooms. We stayed in an updoors facility the loft area was so cute... if only we could have used it. Apparently the air was not working correctly- we had it turned all the way down and it was still way too hot to sleep up there- which is really saying something since we are very cold-natured people. This was a big disappointment to my 2 daughters who were so excited when they saw the room. Instead of using the cute little twin beds up in the loft they had to sleep on the floor on the main level on air mattresses. The rest of the unit was a little dated and could use some updating but I have no major complaints other than the room temperature.”

“A beautiful, historic setting with all the amenities you could ask for! We enjoyed relaxing in the jacuzzi, swimming in the different pools, taking a walk around the gorgeous grounds and eating at the gourmet Kitchen restaurant. This resort stay was an excellent choice without even considering the discounted price. We hope we can go again, soon.”

“I brought my daughter and her sister to the resort for a weekend Williamsburg getaway. Upon arrival I was greeted by friendly staff in the registration area. “The grounds are beautiful and there are lots of activities for the children. We participated in a new activity everyday. The staff was great and friendly. That said, the living quarters are in bad need of a face-lift. We satyed on the ground floor and had ants in the kitchen. I blew off the time-share sales pitch and spent our time doing and going places we enjoyed. While we had a nice time I will not stay again until they remodel the units. ”

“Check in and check out were easy. I declined the timeshare presentation with no undue pressure. Unit showing its age but functional and clean. Nice large space with lots of great features - full kitchen, washer/dryer, sleeper sofa, patio. Parking right outside the door. We didn't visit the restaurants or pool. Would stay there again, especially if price stays the same.”

“(July 2011) Before even getting the room key we were whisked to a sales presentation for Diamond International timeshares which owns this property. You have to keep a firm attitude to get out of the presentation. The grounds are nice and well manicured but the room needed some updating. We were on the ground floor and could here every movement by the people staying above us (I do mean every movement).”

“we loved the place and would stay there again. There are many acitivities on the grounds - racket ball, tennis courts, minature golf, bikes to borrow. Thr condos are very large and have everything you need. It is also conviently located about 7 minutes from Old Williamsburg. ”

“VERY nice room. My two complaints would be that the front door was not the least bit soundproof and we could hear even quiet conversations by our "condo-mates" and the TV was an old 26 inch tube that was hard to see from one side of the room. The furniture was terrific. My kids wanted to know if we could stay another night!”

“We brought our family of seven here, and had the best time! The grounds were spotless, the resort was beautiful. The unit we stayed in was clean and well-kept. There was a washer/dryer in the room which was a wonderful amenity to have on vacation. One room had a huge king-sized bed with access to the main bathroom and shower and its own large TV in a cupboard in the room. The other room had a Queen bed with a private bathroom that held a garden tub. The DVD player wasn't working in our room one time, and they had someone over to repair it incredibly fast! Really great service! The large living room area had a small-walk out deck that had a table and chairs if you wanted to enjoy fresh air. There was a full kitchen as well. There were several swimming pools as well as a lot of lounge chairs to enjoy the sun in near them. The mini-golf course was small, but perfect for enjoying with children. The original plantation house is open most of the days to walk around and tour on your own. Flowers were everywhere - it was so beautiful! While we were there, someone even had an outdoor wedding :). I hope that we can go back again some day! All the staff that we encountered were friendly and welcoming. We did attend one of the sales presentations. They promised that it would not be high-pressure, and it really wasn't. I appreciated that!”

“The upstairs condo we rented was much more spacious than we expected. There were two full bedrooms, pullout couch in the living room, full kitchen. The only down side was some pressure to attend the "ownership" seminar. We did not know they were really set up to "sell" time at the units.”

“My sister, friend and I have stayed here for a long weekend for the past 3 years. We love getting away the first weekend in February and this is a great place for us to go. The rooms are always clean and the linens are the best. The location is close to Historic Downtown Williamsburg as well as outlet shopping. We LOVE it and recommend it to everyone we can. ”

“Upon check-in the staff behind the counter were complaining about their schedule and break time which we didn't think appropriate conversation in front of guests. The first room we checked into was next to one that was having a family reunion/fish fry...music was blasting, grease was smelling, and our parking spot was already occupied. Knowing we wanted a good night sleep we went back to the front desk to have them put us in a different room. We do appreciate that they accommodated our request. The 2nd room they put us in was comfortable and roomy however they were not done with some maintenance on one bathroom fan and the microwave which had a piece sitting on the kitchen floor. The property has nice landscaping and seems to have several activities to participate in, but our stay didn't give us the opportunity to check those out, nor did we dine on site. ”

“We had a great time with our actual stay, but check-in was crazy. We had to stay in one unit the first night and then move the second day. There were several people there with lost reservations and so forth. The front desk staff doesn't seem to have any contact with the company that actually takes the reservations. But otherwise, it was great. The units were really nice, clean, and so forth. Fully stocked kitchens, close to Williamsburg, liked the playground. No other complaints. LOVED the units with hot tubs.”

“The place was kept clean and never had any technical issues. The customer service was lacking however, never rude, but it was obvious that genuine care and concern were not important. Was a little surprised how... festive it got on the weekend. I think people come here to party. I had to call the front desk at 2am to get the people below me to turn down the bass. I love Williamsburg, and I'm under 30, but I won't return here.”
