“The hotel is super old and in need of renovation. Many "fixes" were evident in the room but it really needs a major overhaul. That said, the housekeeping works miracles and the room was clean. It was also very spacious and had towel swans on the bed! The property is nice but the pool is a nice size and has plenty of lounge chairs but is way too cold (spring break) and we could not swim in it at all. The 2 "hot" tubs are warm and quite small. The power went off and with it the internet so I couldn't find the number of the hotel to call to see if they were working on it (the phone in the room did not work). The power was only off for about 15 minutes so not a huge deal. The free internet is a little sketchy and seems to require resetting often.”

Our tv didnt work for the first part of the week and let the staff know about it several times each day and the kept saying they were working on it. Our smoke alarm went off every 5 minutes and when we called the front desk they told us just to unplug it and it would be ok. The indoor pool was completly closed, the one kiddie pool they did have was at least 2 1/2 foot deep, no hot tub, only 1 elevator worked all week and it was slower than crap. The only plus was the tiki bar.”

The only complaints I had were 1 the sliding glass door to the balcony was not working properly (came off the track a little) which caused us to not be able to lock the door until it was fixed (which it was fixed immediately). And 2 When my husband made the reservations he asked for a beach facing room. We don't travel much so my husband did not know there was a difference in types of beach facing rooms. One type is beach "view", which means you are on the side of the building and can see the beach from a distance. Second is beach "front", which your actually facing the beach. Although having the side view wasn't so bad because we could also enjoy the lights and sounds of the Daytona strip at night. Now if you are looking for a quiet little hotel this isn't the one for you, this is a busy hotel with a lot of people having a good time at the clubs downstairs so it did get a little noisy but not overbearingly at all. All in all it was a very nice stay and we are currently planning another stay with a group of friends soon and I can't wait. :)”

“The La Playa Resort would have been a great place to stay in the 1970s, but I cannot recommend it today. I had the opportunity to spend a week on the 8th floor there in June 2012. My room featured a front door that was extremely difficult to close and fully secure; a variety of bugs, including one cockroach; outdated and badly stained carpet; one elevator that was out of order all week. The hotel's other two elevators were extremely slow and not air conditioned. I frequently had to walk UP and down 8 flights of stairs all week; even with my luggage because the hotel is too large for the 3 (2 in my case) slow elevators they have. The lobby area (street level), however, is very nice and well maintained to create the impression that this is a clean and desirable place to stay. However, it is not. I'm just glad I did not stay on the 7th floor because their concrete balcony rails are literally crumbling and being held together with plastic pull straps. ”

“I along with 4 other ladies stayed here the week before Memorial Day. From the past reviews I was a bit apprehensive. When we arrived, the staff was most courteous and we were allowed to go directly to our room even tho it was before the 4pm check in time. Yes the hotel is older but our room was an ocean front suite, very clean, nice wrap around balcony simply fabulous! The sunrise each morning was wonderful! Its an older hotel , needs some paint on the balcony rails but very clean and nice. I would definately book this place again. Very close to the boardwalk.”

Partiers till way into the morning making alot of noise. Concrete floors falling apart. Upper parking deck being held up with stucture supports with large cracks in concrete. Parking area not user friendly. Other than that, good place for the young to party. Good DJ, Tiki bar good, Staff very nice! Won't be back!”

PRO: The room was good for the price: beach balcony, full size refrigerator, stove top, oven, microwave, and sink. The place also has an indoor and outdoor pool. The Tiki bar staff were really friendly. I also enjoyed the rooftop bar. CON: $5 a day to park per car is crazy. Why charge people to park when they are paying for the room already? Lots of rust on the fridge and stove. They did work but it looked bad. Carpet needs replaced. Room door looked like it had been broken into several times. This is a great spring break, party hotel. “I booked 2 of the 1 bedroom suites. The first room was missing a closet door, the lock on the balcony door stuck and the shower head didn't work properly. The second suite had none of these issues and overall appeared cleaner. My kids loved the towel swans on the bed. The rooms could be updated but for the price I can't really complain. Parking was hard to find but the view was great and the hotel is located to good shopping and food.”

At least across the street was a shopping center to get food and drink. Probably will not come back.”

So the next day we called the front desk the lady was very helpful. She moved us and upgraded us. I did not make a big deal I did not talk to any of the hotel guest about it. When we stepped into the new froom, my son killed another roach. This time my husband brought a lady that cleans the rooms and showed her. She said she would let someone know. I called the front desk again. This time she told me that she would have someone @ome and spray. We did not see anymore. We xdo not get a lot of time off to spendx w/ our kids so we always want to make it great. This time was not great. So we have made some changes. I read the reviews and was a little hesitant at first, but then I spoke with Monica at the resort and she was just so friendly that we decided to take a chance. What a great decision we made!!!! Our rooms were not brand new (what is in Daytona??) but everything was in great condition and very clean. Everyone that worked their went out of their way to make our stay a great one. “We had a great family reunion 6/4/11...we got 3 rooms in a row on the first floor down from the bar with rockin dj.... all ages had fun...we had the 80yr olds next door in private quiet room... and us 50yr olds had a big joining kitchen room with the 30yr olds next door...we were right across the nice indoor and hot tub.. from my back door and bed i could hear the ocean..walk right out to the beach and outdoor pool...(and they are dog friendly).. we all really enjoyed a full classy breakfast with great service in the large breakfast room.....it is an older hotel but had all we needed for the price...if u want the hilton or wyndham traffic its right up the st..200 a nite.....publix and resturants a walk across the street was a plus too...!!!... we will be returning in a few months when my daughter has her baby......thanks....xx ”

“We have been going to this hotel for 12 years and this was the first year we were disappointed. They did not have the hostess for the pool games for the weekend like they have the past twelve years. The rooms were pretty clean, but the carpet was not. My feet were black from walking around on the carpet. It has never been like this before. In the years past, we use to have to wait on the staff to clean the pools before we could get in. We never seen anyone clean any of the pools while we were there. They were not dirty and I know they are maintained by the state, but you could still feel sand in them. We later found out that the hotel is in bankruptcy and the bank owns it. It isn't all bad, we enjoyed our stay. If we hadn't stayed here before, we probably would not have noticed the difference, but like I said, we have been going to this hotel for twelve years, so it was obvious something had changed and we found out it did.”

I don't think the hotel room rate should exceed $70 per night no matter the season. I paid $97 per night, that's high for a hotel of that condition. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay, as the staff at the desk and the maids as well, were very helpful.”

“I was VERY skeptical about the La Playa after reading countless negative reviews on the resort. I went with 3 other girls, I'm in college and we didn't need anything fancy. The place was way nicer than expected. We had 2 double beds and then a separate room where the kitchen was. Every room has a balcony, which was nice. The location could not be any better. it is easy to tell that this hotel is old. One of my friends brothers actually stayed there when he was in high school and he is in his late 20's now.. But it is still a great place! I would recommend it to anyone wanting a decent place for a very great deal. I loved it and I will be going again for SB12! :) And it is not dirty either. It is rundown, but it is definetely not dirty. Not fancy, just decent. ”

I think they should put some type of cover over those, not an attractive sight. The front desk staff was no overly glad to be there. The parking lots and halls were very noisy with kids, but I do realize it was spring break, but should have moved them on before 3am. All in all the room was clean and was a large room. IF I come back for the spring, I would hope you will hire a minimum wage security guard to quiet down the spring breakers, they were obnoxious until 3:30 am, I know of families who are not coming back because of that, a minimum investment in a security guard would have prevented the noise for the most part. Please hire someone for that purpose during spring break, I know you rely on the kids for business, but I saw plenty of REGULAR QUIET FOLKS TOO. Good luck”
