Overview

Airdrie is a fast-growing city in the Province of Alberta, Canada. It located within the Rocky View County in the Calgary Region. Airdrie started as a railway village established in 1889 and developed into a beautiful industrial and bedroom community in recent years. Being home to a little over 43,000 people, Airdrie has experienced a recent boom in its population due to developments in its scenic neighborhoods. The city is easily accessible through the Queen Elizabeth II Highway and the Calgary International Airport. With interesting attractions, modern amenities and a welcoming atmosphere, Airdrie is a great place for a weekend respite from the fast-paced urban life.

When to Visit

Airdrie and the entire Calgary Region experience bitter cold winters and dry warm summers. While winter brings the temperature down to the extremes, the warm Chinook Winds frequently blow from the mountains, giving relief from the bitter cold. The best time to explore the city is during the summer when days are dry and sunny. Summer nights can be cool so be ready with something to keep you warm. You may also plan your visit around local events like the Airdrie Pro Rodeo and the Airdrie Regional Air Show in July, the Airdrie Fest in September and the Festival of Lights throughout the month of December.

The city houses plenty of attractions are lure visitors from nearby cities and beyond. Located in Airdrie’s center is the 40-acre Nose Creek Park where you will find handcrafted Korean Totem Poles that are part of the community icons scattered across Alberta. The Nose Creek Valley Museum is also a great place to visit if you want to learn about the history of Airdrie and the surrounding area. The museum is located on Main Street and offers group tours for elementary students and the general public. The Iron Horse Park is a miniature railway that will take visitors through mountains, trestles, tunnels and small scale communities reminiscent of the earlier days.

There are plenty of dining places in Airdrie that offer everything from local delicacies and simple meals to international favorites and extravagant gourmet cuisine. It is located in an industrial park and is considered a hidden gem in the city. Those who crave for Japanese cuisine can head to Sushi Haru and those who want Italian flavors should sample the offerings at Ristorante Napoli. Paros on Main is a good Greek place while Original Joe’s is the go-to place for American dishes.
