Guide to Arab, Alabama

Overview

A city both covered by the counties of Cullman and Marshall, Arab is situated in the northeast portion of the state of Alabama. The name of the city has been unintentionally misspelled in 1892 by the U.S. Postal Service. The city is supposedly named after Arad Thompson, son of the city’s founder Postmaster Stephen Thompson. Incorporated as a city in 1892, Arab has been continuously conserving its history and heritage. Visitors and newcomers to the city will definitely be delighted by its local curiosities.

Tourist Attractions

One of the oldest structures that can be found in the city of Arab is the Boyd Farmhouse. Built in the late 1800s, formerly a home established by a homestead family, it was then donated by the later descendants to the historical society of the city. This antique home has interiors designed in the early 1940s style. The Rice Church, built in 1911, is now restored and is a favorite place of the locals for its Southern gospel, piano and children’s choir. Built in 1997, the Smith’s Country Store is a vintage store that is themed back to the 1940s. Established by the Arab Historical Society, it specializes on items that are both usually found in commercial stores.

Restaurants and Dining

Arab offers various places to eat for starving stomachs. For the best Italian food in the city, local diners flock to Grumpy’s Pizza & Pasta Shop. Contrary to its name, customers here leave satisfied and pleased. Hardee’s, located along North Brindlee Mountain Parkway, serves sumptuous burgers and breakfast platters. Mexican food and steaks, meanwhile, are best consumed at the Sierra Restaurant. Good food and excellent service are just the two reasons why customers keep coming back at Sierra’s. Other notable dining places in Arab that are waiting to be explored include the Son’s House of Barbeque and Captain D’ Seafood, both located at the North Brindlee Mountain Parkway.

Also a wide array of tools and items are also displayed for viewing.
