Atmore is a city located in the county of Escambia. From its 2005 census, it has a population of 7,530. Situated in the state of Alabama, the city was named after C. P. Atmore, a Louiseville and Nashville Railroad General Passenger Agent. Starting as a farming community, the city of Atmore has progressed towards the telecommunication industry. It became the home of the telecom company of Southland Systems. The Indian residents of the city at the Poarch Band of Creek Indians Reservation currently contribute significantly to Atmore’s economy through their Creek Casino.
Outdoor adventure and fun is the primary offering of Atmore. People come here to have a feel of the outdoor living. Camping, hiking, kayaking, swimming, fishing, paddling and boating are all being offered by the Little River State Forest. Atmore celebrates various events and festivals year round. During the month of May, visitors can take part in the celebration of Mayfest. This Old-Time Fiddlers’ Convention showcases talents and also serves as a fund-raising activity for a scholarship program. Held during the month of August is the “A Taste of the South.” This annual event showcases food cooked by Atmore’s best kitchen gurus and is held at the Heritage Park. The fourth Saturday of October, meanwhile, is celebrated as the William Station day. It commemorates the city’s history that can be traced back to as early as 1866. The celebration includes food bazaars, fiddler’s tent, storytelling for kids, a model train show, and arts and crafts exhibition.

Dubbed as the best barbeque place in Atmore, Gold’s also offers top-notch service to its satisfied customers. Simply named as Bakery, this quaint shop located on South Trammell Street sells the most wonderful cakes in the city. David’s Catfish House on Main Street is the right place for those wanting to enjoy seafood. Apart from its famous seafood, David’s is also known for its delicious steaks. Those craving for Mexican can dine at the Jalisco Mexican Restaurant found along Lindberg Avenue.
