About Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is the capital of Massachusetts, and is considered to be one of the first cities to be established in the United States. This city has been witness to many important events related to the American Revolution, thus, making it a popular tourist destination. It has also been the site of many firsts in the history of the United States such as the establishment of the first public school and the construction of the first subway system in the country back in 1635 and 1897, respectively. After the declaration of American Independence, Boston became a major manufacturing and shipping center. The arrival of commercialization allowed the city to eventually become famous for being a center for medicine and an international center for higher education.

Things to do

Visitors can relive history when touring Boston. There is a 2.5-mile Freedom trail that leads to many of the city's historical spots such as the monument of Benjamin Franklin, the site of Boston Massacre and the Paul Revere House. An informational award-winning architectural display featuring the New England Holocaust Memorial at Carmen Park commemorates the horrors of World War II. Baseball fans can visit the home of Red Sox at Fernway Park, one of the oldest major league stadiums that has been used since its construction in 1912. Kids will definitely enjoy running around the Franklin Park Zoo and seeing animals of all sizes and kinds. The Boston Public Garden is a perfect place for families and lovers to bask in the beauty of Boston while taking an afternoon walk.

There's more to Boston than the remnants of the past. High-class designer clothes, bargain deals and everything in between can be found within the streets of this city. The Prudential Center is the place to be for those looking for a diverse shopping experience. Check out its Skywalk Observatory and see for yourself a grand 360-dergree perspective of Boston and beyond. To get a touch of genuine Boston street shopping experience, see how urban sophistication and antiquity blend at Faneuil Hall Market Place. If you still want more, splurge your heart out at the A-listed stores of Natick Collection.

When to visit

The autumn season brings out the best in Boston. There is something romantic in witnessing the changing colors of the leaves and feeling the cool, crisp air at a place with such rich historic background. Moreover, the influx of students for the new terms brings out an air of festivity in the streets.

Best Museums

As the country's "cradle of liberty," Boston prides itself for having one of the most numerous selections of historical artifacts. History buffs will surely enjoy visiting the USS Constitution Museum, and looking through documentaries, interactive programs, artifacts and exhibits that have a connection to the 200-year old constitution. Those who are into the world of American politics can drop by at the John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. This gallery exhibits a chronicle of the late president's life and houses the Ernest Hemmingway Collection. The Museum of African American History complex, comprised of the Abiel Smith School and the African American Meeting House, offers a walking tour that traces the early African American Boston community heritage.
