50th Anniversary
My wife and I were about to celebrate our 50th anniversary and needed to stay close to home. I had decided that we would spend a weekend at the Wentworth-by-the-Sea hotel. This beautiful hotel is a lasting memory of the golden era of grand hotels here in New Hampshire that has been completely restored to its original glory. We had stayed at this hotel back in the 70's when it was sadly falling apart, it closed and stayed dormant for many years and was threaten to be torn down. Thankfully that didn't happen and today it is a joy to go there for relaxation and fine dining. Our stay was wonderful as we were treated very well by all of the staff.
While there we visited downtown Portsmouth, dined at a local restaurant and purchased a fine bottle of wine at a specialty shop. Portsmouth has many fine dining establishments and unique shops.
While there we also visited the USS Albacore museum. If you are interested in marine history this is a great start. Portsmouth has a long and history is shipbuilding and played a major role in American Revolution. Speaking of the revolution, did you know the first conflict in the American Revolution occurred in New Castle, yes it did. While no shots were fired or blood spilled, the American patriots captured the fort William and Mary and made off with all its gun power and ball which was used of the battle of Bunker Hill in Boston. Needless to say the area is steeped in history.
Is history is not your thing; the views of the seacoast are stunning and is highly recommended.
My wife and I enjoyed our extended weekend stay in the area and while it was short it was also memorable…
