The road to becoming a modern city has been a long one for San Mateo as it started way back in 1789 or even earlier based on records in the archives of Mission Dolores. The place where the city now stands had once been part of Rancho de las Pulgas (literally “Ranch of the Fleas”) as well as Rancho San Mateo. It was from these areas that the settlements began to be built. The place also became home to many wealthy people, including A.P. Giannini who is the founder of the Bank of Italy that later became the Bank of America.
San Mateo is one of the nicest places to live and visit in California, with its mild Mediterranean climate that offers tourists and residents a cool but not freezing place to enjoy. Already a modern city, San Mateo has lots to offer in terms of homes, condominiums, hotels, and various accommodation options within its boundaries. Surely, staying here is quite easy. There are also many recreational venues and favorite destinations to keep everyone busy. The Central Park of San Mateo with its many special areas like the San Mateo Arboretum and the Japanese Tea Garden is among the favorite options in the city.
There really is so much for tourists and visitors to do in San Mateo. They can head to the beach to have fun under the sun and beneath the waves or they could explore natural habitats such as marshes and woodlands in San Mateo. Coyote Point Park is another must-visit place in the city. It is a natural park set on a rock outcropped peninsula that juts out into the San Francisco Bay. Sugarloaf Mountain is another prominent natural landmark in the city.

Country fair was awesomeDuring my trip to San Mateo, I was able to participate in the San Mateo County Fair which was fun, complete with carnival rides as well as games. It may not be as grand as the State Fair, but it was really interesting and a new thing for me. I was also able to check out the CuriOdyssey. This was a museum of sorts that was located just a few miles away from the city center. It’s a really great place for kids, but not bad for adults as well. My friend suggests that all visitors drop by the San Mateo Japanese Garden, Horseshoe Cove, and Coyote Point Recreation Area. |
