Rome has one of the most vibrant histories in all the cities of the world. The capital of Italy today, it had also been the stronghold and capital of the Roman Kingdom, the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire. The city had held so much power, dominant power, over Western Europe and other areas around the Mediterranean Sea for more than 700 years. Truly, its nickname as “The Eternal City” is aptly chosen.
Rome is so big that it would take weeks for a traveler ever to cover everything there is to see here. Still, those who are drawn to this old city can best start their tour at the historic city center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Old City is best explored by walking – this to ensure that travelers can examine every detail of this wonderful historic city. This is the place to admire various Palazzos with their intricate courtyards with well-manicured gardens, sculptures, and elegant fountains.
With its very long and rich history, it is but given that there would be so many sights to see in Rome. Surely, most, if not all, have heard of and seen these landmarks in various media, movies, and photos. The Colosseum is one of the most known landmarks associated with the city. Of course, although a sovereign state, Vatican City is an enclave of Rome and is really worth visiting, too.
Other well-known landmarks include the Roman Forum, Vittorio Emanuele monument, the Quirinal Palace which is the official residence of the President of Italy, the Pantheon, and St. Peter's Basilica. There are so many piazzas or park squares in Rome. Some of the most popular are Piazza Navona and Piazza della Rotonda.
Other attractions include The Time Elevator, Rome's Wax Museum, Children's Museum, Zoomarine, and palazzos like Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana and Piazza del Popolo.

When in Rome, HAVE FUN!There is this saying that goes something like, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do!” Well, I am not sure what they meant by this, but for me, I think its something like whenever you are in Rome, you should enjoy Rome the way the Romans do… and perhaps even more. During my visit to Rome, I was very excited because of all the things that I heard about the place, and I had listed things down to be sure I get to see the MUSTs. We started off at the Trevi Fountain, then moved forward to see the Pantheon. After that, we checked out the Colosseum, then went to Saint Peter’s Basilica. We didn’t really mind which was close or not, just randomly picked a place among my list. It was great!!! Guest submitted photos ![]()
